You’ve made the decision to have a boudoir photoshoot – what an awesome way to love and celebrate yourself! Read on to learn how you can be best prepared to create stunning images that you will love forever.
Consultation
If you're feeling a little anxious or even totally petrified, don't worry. You are not alone! Most clients start out a little nervous once they've made the decision to do a boudoir session. I understand this and it is my job to put you at ease. It begins with your initial consultation. This is our first chance to get to know each other and it's exciting! Before your consultation, take time to think about and jot down any questions you have. Chances are I've encountered similar questions before. Many clients worry about how to pose - as the photographer, it is my job to pose and light you in the most flattering ways. Even if you've never done a photoshoot before, you will forget that you aren't a professional model after the first few clicks of the camera! Some clients worry about what they will wear. We will discuss all of these things, find a style and select a wardrobe that fits your dream vision. To get some styling ideas, read my blog post, "Styling Tips to Rock Your Session" Click Here
Don't wait to book your consultation. It is advisable to have a few weeks between our first consultation and your photoshoot. There are times that I book out a few months in advance, so it's best to initiate the process as early as possible.
Pre-Planning / Styling
After our initial consultation, I will be accessible to help plan and style your shoot. Make sure to communicate the types of images you would like to create. I use private Pinterest boards to share and develop ideas with my clients. These boards are great for gathering inspiration and designing an aesthetic for your shoot. Think about how you would like to be photographed. Do you want nude or implied nude photos? Would you prefer more modest images? What will your wardrobe be? What undergarments do you need to bring? Do you have special lingerie you want to wear? As we collaborate through the process, you will gain confidence knowing that all of the preparation will result in beautiful images, exactly as you dreamed of!
Hair and Makeup
Your session is your day to be pampered and it begins with professional hair and makeup. This is a great part of the experience and any remaining anxiety you may have will melt into excitement and anticipation. My hair and makeup artists know how to get you perfectly camera-ready. Be sure to communicate your preferences to the stylist - we want you to feel like you, only a more glammed-up version of you. Understand, however, that we know certain things that do and don't work in photos. That said, here are my recommendations: HAIR ~ It's important that you arrive at the studio with clean, blown-dry hair. Unless you have short hair or have another style in mind, my artist will style your hair away from your face with soft, natural waves. MAKEUP ~ makeup should be natural looking with an emphasis on the eyes, lips and cheeks. Rose or peachy toned blush on the cheekbones is best. An even skin tone is also very important. Strong highlighting and contouring should be avoided, as should self-tanners, bronzers and heavy eyeshadow/eyeliner. We love lashes, though and my artist will apply them if you choose. Finally, consider getting a mani-pedi a day or 2 before your shoot. I recommend a light, soft natural color. Your hands and feet will be visible in some of your images, so this is an important consideration.
Final Considerations
There are a few last-minute things you can do to prepare to arrive at the studio the day of your shoot. Pack a robe to wear during your makeover and to throw on in between shots. Apply a non-greasy lotion to your skin, be well-hydrated and rested, and wear loose-fitting clothes since elastic bands and tight-fitting clothes tend to leave marks on the skin. Most of all, RELAX and enjoy every moment of your experience. By this point, we've established a friendship and we are ready to start creating magic together. It's my job to take the best pictures you have ever seen of yourself. You’ve prepared well, and now it's time to soak in every minute and let me do my thing! Trust the creative process and be present in the moment. Enjoy!
